Op Atalanta 02 - 2024/04/20

Situation

Strategic Command assets executed an overwhelmingly successful operation in securing the island of Utes. All designated objectives were achieved, and significant intelligence assets were successfully retrieved.

During the assault on the Whitewater compound, shortly after the artillery fire mission from 29Cdo but before 40Cdo pushed in, confirmation of 2 individuals escaping via an armoured SUV to the port was confirmed. Current assumptions are that a higher ranking Whitewater person(s) arrived via helicopter (flight plan recovered from black box) and facilitated a meeting with a Black Bear Raider leader within their compound. Their current whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Throughout the operation, HMS Dauntless maintained surveillance on airborne assets to the South and South West, while simultaneously monitoring radio usage spanning the entirety of Veteran island. An initial assessment of Veteran island has yielded valuable insights into the whereabouts of both civilian population, infrastructure and areas used by Black Bear Raiders, though the entire picture of the island.

HMS Dauntless edged nearer to the island, optimising logistical operations for swift supply exchanges. Throughout the night and into the early hours, as 40 Commando's provisions were being offloaded, HMS Dauntless's radar detected suspicious activity: two mortar rounds impacting the shallow waters of the coastline to the west of Utes island. Defensive protocols to ensure future rounds are intercepted were enacted, while analysts pinpointed the likely origin of the mortar fire to be somewhere on the island to the west of Utes, Raven Rock.

Acknowledgements

Airspace and territorial waters of Novograd (North West) MUST NOT be infringed, while intervention in the region has been agreed, access to their territory has been a point of contention.

Civilian population exists on Veteran Island, along with infrastructure. Known positions have been marked on relevant maps, however it is possible for Black Bear Raider patrols and supply convoys to pass through these areas especially close to the Main Supply Route that circles the middle of the island.

After an analysis of the intelligence gathered from the Utes port and the established shipping route to Eastside port on Veteran Island, it is apparent that targeting the port for disruption is not a feasible option. This conclusion is drawn due to the intertwined nature of the Black Bear Raiders' presence with the heavy civilian population, particularly the dock workers. Any attempt to assault the port would inevitably lead to significant civilian casualties, rendering current actions against it untenable.

Out of an abundance of caution from Igla’s being deployed on Utes, along with ZSU and radar equipment being found in one of the hangars. The airfield and 3 islands to the far west, believed to be operated by Whitewater, should be AVOIDED by all air assets till more intel is available and a proper assessment can be conducted.

Intent & Tasking(s)

The intent of the following taskings are to secure the newly held position on Utes airfield to facilitate future operations and secondly to disrupt Black Bear Raider storage of weapons, ammunition, and potential logistics across the island. Additionally, it aims to investigate the legitimacy of intelligence gathered during the last operation due to Whitewater having experience in the realm of intelligence gathering and dissemination.

Main objectives overview - [ image 1 | image 2 | image 3 ]

Based on the intel recovered from the port and surveillance by HMS Dauntless, of the 3 locations marked. We’ve identified one to be their main logistical depot for the region, the objective is to confirm that it is both still in use and contains equipment similar to the into from the cargo manifest. Upon visual confirmation of enemy equipment, destroy it by any means necessary to prevent future use and inflict a significant dent in their ability to arm themselves.

Two warehouses have also been marked. Their operational status is unknown, but if confirmed, the same tasking as the main depot applies: visually confirm and destroy any stored equipment or supplies.

Mortars believed to be threatening Utes' security, operating on Raven Rock island, may be spotted from Recce assets or ISTAR operations. Follow-on action via CAS or counter fire from Artillery is recommended. Visual confirmation of their destruction, along with the destruction of the port to the north, is vital to prevent future redeployment while our focus is on Veteran island.

Among the intel gathered, there is mention of the Airfield on Veteran island being disabled or unavailable. While confirmation of the intel and situation is not paramount to the current operation, a small investigation into the accident, current situation and enemy forces positioned there would be valuable for upcoming operations. Due to the nature of the infrastructure, it is highly recommended ground callsigns conduct the investigation due to the possibility of AA that could exist in the area.

Once 40 commando has safely inserted to the Veteran island, 29 Commando and CAS callsigns will be called upon to engage enemy fortifications confirmed to have zero civilian presence to the northern side once the priority target, OBJ Europa has been handled.
