Op Red Resurgence 01 - 2024/09/21

Situation

Strategic Command has deployed assets to Belmorra Island in response to the recent political upheaval and the threat to UK interests in the region. Following the controversial election of Viktor Ivanov and his subsequent consolidation of power, the situation on the island has rapidly deteriorated.

Our intelligence indicates that Ivanov's regime has begun an aggressive militarisation program, with a focus on modernising their equipment and bolstering their defences. Of particular concern is the Tikhoretsk airport, which has been rapidly converted into a military airbase, posing a significant threat to our operations in the area.

Additionally, we've identified key infrastructure that Ivanov's forces are using to maintain control over the island and suppress opposition which includes a strategically important railway bridge and port facility.

The Democratic Union of Belmorra (DUB) has been effectively dismantled, with its leader, Lucas Romanov, believed to be imprisoned. The barely established resistance movement, Belmorra Freedom Fighters (BLF), has been severely compromised with the death of Dmitri Cross during a raid on Romanov's residence.

Civilians sympathetic to the former democratic government are under strict control, with curfews and restrictions on movement in place. The Armed Forces of Belmorra (AFB) have a strong presence across the island, particularly in urban areas and around key military installations.

Tikhoretsk airfield has become the main hub for a majority of the AFB's air assets for both refuelling and repairs since the coup. A surgical strike to dismantle not only the airfield itself, but also a significant portion of their air assets will aid in future operations in Belmorra. FOB Prigo and FOB Tikhoretsk are likely to deploy QRF forces.

GCHQ has relayed available intel and confirmed the location of a backup site at an old abandoned radar installation. Inside is equipment that was established as a remote kill switch to temporarily shutdown radar installations used by GCHQ across Belmorra. Operatives stationed on the island were unable to secure the equipment with AFB forces hunting down by patrolling radar and comms installations. Upon our arrival to the region it will be triggered allowing us to enter waters close to Belmorra undetected, however it's vital the equipment and intel at the location be destroyed afterwards to prevent reverse engineering once in custody of the AFB.

Atamanka island and military personnel and assets stationed there have been redeployed around Belmorra to assist with the coup and enforcing martial law. Using the chaos from the raid on Tikhoretsk airfield along with the reduced personnel on the island provides an opportunity for Strategic Command to secure a foothold in the region for future operations. Concentration of garrisons and patrols are grouped around the south west port and airfield.

Acknowledgements

  • Refer to the situation report for detailed information on known factions and identification protocols.
  • Civilian presence is high in urban areas. Exercise extreme caution to minimise collateral damage and maintain positive relations with the local population.
  • Ivanov's regime has implemented state-controlled media. Civilian information may be compromised or unknowingly manipulated.
  • Any sightings or information related to UK citizens or GCHQ personnel should immediately be reported through the appropriate chain of command.

Commanders intent

The primary intent of this operation is to degrade Ivanov's military capabilities and disrupt his control over key infrastructure, while minimising civilian casualties and avoiding direct confrontation with Armed Forces of Belmorra where possible.

Tasking's

40 Commando (Stirling)

  • [OBJ Ares] Infill and coordinate strikes to disable or destroy critical infrastructure at Tikhoretsk airport. Target acquisition should prioritise air defence systems followed by parked air assets, fuel depots, and communication arrays.
  • [OBJ Apollo] Assault Atamanka island capturing the airfield and two ports.
  • When possible, gather any available intelligence on the whereabouts of Lucas Romanov and/or any remaining BLF members.

45 Commando (X-Ray)

  • [OBJ Cronus] Infill to Tikhoretsk island, raid the old radar installation, locate and destroy the GCHQ equipment. If capable, QRF forces moving from the south east base may be intercepted before reinforcing the airfield.
  • [OBJ Apollo] Assault Atamanka island capturing the airfield and two ports.
  • When possible, gather any available intelligence on the whereabouts of Lucas Romanov and/or any remaining BLF members.

Joint Aviation Command will provide close air support and extraction capabilities as needed. Be advised that AFB has enhanced their anti-air capabilities, so air assets must operate with caution.

29 Commando will support 40 Commando and 45 Commando during objectives Ares, Cronus and Apollo. Along with targeting key structures.
